A mainstay of the Japanese photography world today, his rigorous and delicate imaging style is unique among the many styles and schools in Japan.

· Born in Udon Thani, Thailand in 1953.

 

· Moved to Fukushima, Japan, his father's hometown, in 1961.

 

· Graduated from Tokyo School of Visual Arts in 1975.

 

· Participated in Daido Moriyama Photography School in 1976.

 

· Became an assistant to Masahisa Fukase in 1979.

 

· Founded the gallery "Place M" in 1987.

 

· Participated in international exchanges with a diverse East Asian cultural identity.

 

· The photo collection Bangkok, Hanoi won the Newcomer Award of the Photographic Society of Japan (1995).

 

· The photography activities centered on the photography exhibitions "Living Room, Tokyo" and "Silent Mode" won the 21st Kimura Ihei Photography Award (1996),

 

· Binran won the Annual Award of the Photographic Society of Japan (2008).

 

Seto Masato's writing skills are another achievement. His essay collection Asian Family Stories won the 12th Shincho Gakuin Award (1999).
